    The walls rebuilt several times since the 9C, are topped by pyramidal merlons and reinforced by massive square bastions. Two of the doors are decorated and cantoned with towers.

    This Romanesque church is flanked by a square, squat belfry. Its facade is pierced by a pretty round-arched doorway one of whose archivolts is decorated with a strange frieze of archangels.

    Opposite the church, the 16C pillory is topped with a cage decorated with small columns.

    Just beyond the manor on the right, you can see, under a porch, an attractive stone 14C Christ. You will look down on the church square and the village.

    This is an elegant 18C Baroque manor house with a facade flanked by pilasters. It belonged to the family of the Marquis of Pombal.

    In the countryside of the high granite plateau of the Serra de Lapa, the houses, also of granite, of the town of Aguiar da Beira are grouped around a main square which has retained its medieval air.

    These old houses are recognisable by the patina of their granite walls, coats of arms and finely wrought balconies. One of them, located on a small square near the church, has a facade from the 16C with windows emphasised by consoles and sculptures.

    Dominated by its square keep, it is in the north-east corner of the surrounding wall. From the top of the ramparts the view extends over the uneven terrain of the Beira Alta.
