Gilded wood panelling, a fresco depicting the life of the Virgin Mary, painted ceiling: the rich decor of the Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs is a stark contrast to its plain exterior.

The panorama from this chapel takes in Port-de-Bouc, Fos-sur-Mer, Port-Saint-Louis, Lavéra and its oil port, the viaduct and the Pont de Caronte (bridge), the Estaque mountains with Martigues in the foreground, Mt Sainte Victoire.

The exhibition presents the port autonome de Marseille (independent port) installations and activities: a model and video film followed by a visit of the port complex.
