Tuzigoot National Monument Interesting

USA - Camp Verde 86322
Add your photos
Occupied from 1000 to 1400, this ancient Sinagua pueblo tops a ridge 120ft above the Verde River. At its height in the late 1300s, Tuzigoot (Apache for crooked water) was home to about 225 people, who lived in 86 ground-floor rooms and perhaps 15 second-story rooms, and farmed the fertile valley. Rooftop ladders offered entry to most rooms. Limestone and sandstone river boulders, bound together with mud mortar, formed the pueblo's walls.Modern visitors, following a gently sloping .25mi trail through the ruins, may enter several rooms to glimpse how the Sinaguans lived. Artifacts, excavated on site and displayed in the visitor center, help interpret cultural practices.
