Bordered by the curving Vltava and the boulevards that have replaced the fortifications, the Old Town of Prague has a long history, visible everywhere in its maze of streets and squares (Staromestské námestí, námestí Republiky). Old churches - St. James and St. Francis - alternate with Romanesque and Gothic houses and their Baroque façades (House of the Golden Ring, House of the Black Madonna).
