Ceský Krumlov : The Michelin guide review

Encircled in a loop of the Vltava, this medieval town dominated by a huge castle has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992. Its story began with the powerful Vitek family, but it was during the reigns of the lords of Rožmberk (1302-1602) and the Schwarzenbergs (18C) that the town's prosperity was at its zenith. Many years later it began to attract writers and painters. Today, its practically intact architectural heritage, composed of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque features, draws growing numbers of visitors.
