Travel guide Santillana del Mar
Santillana del Mar
: The Michelin guide review
Santillana del Mar was built around the monastery that houses the relics of St Juliana. Life continues at much the same pace as in the past, where, at night, sheep, goats and cattle are brought into hundred-year-old stables, with their fine emblazoned stone façades. The famous pilgrimage here was popular with Castile's nobility. As a result, Santillana became a collegiate town in the 11C, a marquisate in the 15C, and then acquired the many fine houses that make it so charming today.
