It was in the heart of the aristocratic Carrer del Sol that the Marqués del Palmer’s house was built in 1556. Its impressive stone façade has been blackened by time. On the first floor, the Renaissance decoration of the windows softens the starkness of the Gothic wall. The high gallery sheltering the classical porch is a copy of the one from La Llotja. A little further on, near the city walls, the old Jewish quarter of Portella is a maze of quiet, narrow and occasionally arcaded streets.
