At the end of the 18C, Manuel Amat, a nobleman from Barcelona who had been the viceroy of Peru, came back to Barcelona a very rich man. To show off his wealth, he had a sumptuous palace built that was a mix of Baroque and rococo styles. The outbuildings and patio were the setting for grand temporary exhibitions.
