Travel guide Puerto Real
Puerto Real : The Michelin guide review
Puerto Real was founded in 1483, just 10km south of Puerto de Santa María, by the Catholic Monarchs - hence its name, which means “royal port”. In recent years it has had difficulty adapting from shipbuilding to other activities, although it has received help from Cádiz University, which relocated several of its faculties here. Its decline first began 200 years ago, when Napoleon invaded in 1808. The mid-19C church of San Sébastián is well worth visiting.
