This pink-hued medieval town occupies an outstanding setting perched on a cliff hewn by the Guadalaviar in the Sierra de Albarracín. The ramparts were built by the Moors in the 10C and were largely rebuilt by the Christians in the 14C. The Sierra de Albarracín was inhabited as early as the Upper Palaeolithic period and has a large number of wall engravings on the walls of the Callejón del Plou and Cueva del Navaza prehistoric shelters.
