A house with paintings covering all the walls: this is how Ernest Thiel dreamt of his house. Spurned by high society, this rich banker had this Art Nouveau residence built on the heights of Djurgården, to house his collection of works of art that he bought or ordered with his second wife. But when he went bankrupt in 1924, the State bought his collection and soon opened it to the public.
