Falun : The Michelin guide review
This town is known for its copper mines, which existed as far back as the Vikings. Falun’s mining boom coincided with that of the whole country: its mines became Sweden’s leading industry in the 17C. Stora, the company that worked them from the 13C is the country’s oldest firm. Wooden miners’ and foundry workers’ houses are among the exceptional industrial heritage that survives and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001. A visitor information centre is located near the Stora Museum.
