Mateus : The Michelin guide review

Chestnut trees, vines and orchards tell you of the approaching town of Mateus, famous for the manor house of the Counts of Vila Real and the rosé wine produced on the estate. The manor house ( Solar de Mateus), built in the first half of the 18C is a triumph of Baroque architecture. You can see the facade of a high powerful chapel fort which is elegant and Baroque and was erected in 1750. In two rooms forming a museum you will see among other things some engraved coppers by Fragonard and the Baron Gerard.
