Museu Nacional do Azulejo star : The Michelin guide review

The museum, located in the 16C convent of Madre de Deus, shows how the panels of tiles were made and their development. The oldest azulejos are displayed on the walls of the great cloister and the small Manueline cloister: note the panoramic view of Lisbon before 1755 and the chapter house over the nave. The lower part of the 18C church is covered with Dutch azulejos. The continuity of the art of azulejos is illustrated by the work of contemporary artists such as Vieira da Silva.
