Travel guide Elvas
Elvas
: The Michelin guide review
Not far from the Spanish citadel of Badajoz, Elvas is an large fortified place still surrounded by its ramparts. Occupied by the Moors until 1226, it then resisted the many Spanish attacks, but was taken over in 1580 by the troops of Philip II. The town is a large agricultural market and its preserved plums are much appreciated by gourmets. The trade in textile products (cotton) attracts many visitors from the neighbouring country.
