Born in Warsaw in 1867, at a very early age Marie Sklodowska revealed gifts for the sciences. She followed lessons in a State high school before emigrating to France, in order to continue her studies. Enrolled at the Sorbonne, she married the physician Pierre Curie. Their discovery of natural radioactivity won them the Nobel prize for physics in 1903. Continuing her research, she obtained the Nobel prize for chemistry in 1911. She died from leukaemia in 1934 and was interred at the Paris Panthéon.
