Born on 22 February 1810 in a small village on the city’s outskirts, Chopin was the city's great child prodigy. Showing his gifts for music (especially on the piano) at an early age, he was still very young when he took lessons at the Central School of Music where he composed works that caused a stir even then. He left Poland in 1830 and settled in Paris where he had a love affair with George Sand. Dying from tuberculosis in 1849, he left works of worldwide renown. The museum is in the Ostrogski Palace.
