Church of the Holy Cross : The Michelin guide review

The church was destroyed during the 1944 uprising, in battles that were fought even inside this building. Its fine Baroque-style structure was subsequently the setting for confrontations between students and the communist authorities. The Christ in the entrance, carrying the Cross on His back, became a symbol of Warsaw’s martyrdom. The church also has Chopin’s heart (second pillar on the left side of the nave) and the ashes of writer Wladyslaw Reymont.
