Tower of Weeping Women (Schreierstoren) : The Michelin guide review

This semi-circular tower was built at the end of the 15th Century and was part of the city's ancient ramparts. According to legend the sailors' wives came here to bid farewell to their husbands, which is why it is called the "Tower of Weeping Women". A bas-relief dated 1569 depicts the scene and a bronze plaque commemorates the English navigator Henry Hudson who, in 1609, set sail westwards for the Dutch East India Company and in North America sailed up the river that has been named after him.
