This square is made up of a pretty garden and a street stretching between the Rokin and the Singel. A bronze statue by K. Kneulman, Het Lieverdje (1960), stands here, representing a nonchalant and cocky Amsterdam youth. In the 60s it was a rallying point for the Provos, young protesters led by R. Grootveld. There are two cafés on the square which are very popular in the evenings: the Hoppe and the Luxembourg.
