TOURISM
As the city’s population grew in the early 16C, the bishop of Utrecht authorised a second place of worship, known as the “New Church”. Built in the Flamboyant Gothic style, the structure has been extensively remodelled after numerous attacks and fires. The interior, which is striking for its sobriety and luminosity provided by 75 windows, has been a fitting setting for the coronation of Holland’s monarchs from William I in 1815 to Beatrix in 1980, and today also hosts major exhibitions.
