Le Tournant d'Or : The Michelin guide review

This part of the Herengracht owes its name to the opulence of the houses, which were inhabited in the 17th Century by the wealthiest merchants and ship-owners. The facades, in the styles of Louis XIV, XV and XVI, demonstrate the strong French influence on Amsterdam's high society at the time, and have retained the decorative exuberance of their balustrades, statues, coats of arms and allegorical scenes. Nowadays most of these buildings are occupied by banks or consulates.
