De Negen Straatjes : The Michelin guide review

This commercial quarter to the south of the Westermarkt is laid out over nine criss-crossing streets named after animals, a vestige of its fur-trading past: Reestraat, Hartenstraat, Gasthuis Molenstraat, Berenstraat, Wolvenstraat, Oude Spiegelstraat, Runstraat, Huidenstraat and Wijde Heisteeg. They run between the four major canals and are bordered by houses with attractive ornamented façades. Shops and cafés encourage visitors to wander and linger over lunch.
