This old establishment overlooks an attractive section of the Herengracht canal on one side and a patio on the other. Good, reasonably priced menu (simpler at lunchtimes). Pavement terrace on the canal.

Pros
A pleasant interior space with a lovely view to a canal junction through the windows at the front. The food was, for the most part, flavoursome and somewhat creative. The 'Tea Dessert' I had, served in a tea cup, stood out as a dish which could have failed miserably but was in fact wonderfully, delicately refreshing.
Cons
After waiting 30 minutes for the waiting staff to clear away the dessert, in the vain hope of ordering a coffee, the lateness of the hour and my exhausted patience forced me to settle for simply asking for the bill. This negligence from the otherwise competent and polite staff rather soured the evening. The main course duck was over cooked and the fat had not been caramelised.

Pros
A comfortable, quiet restaurant, providing an excellent, friendly and very polite welcome. We visited it on three occasions in one week, and were therefore served by different waiters and welcomed by different family members, all of whom were consistently pleasant. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The set menu was good value for money, contained a good selection of dishes and changed frequently. The cooking was inventive and interesting, and of a good standard. The wine recommendations were excellent.
Cons
We ate a la carte once, on a busy evening. On this occasion the fish was supposed to be served with needle pasta, but came with the standard fish risotto that accompanied the fish course on the set menu. This was at the end of our stay in Amsterdam and unfortunately we were too tired to say anything about it, so cannot report any consequences.
