The Venice main post office is located in the "Fondaco dei Tedeschi", the German Warehouse, which was both a warehouse and the living quarters of German merchants who came to Venice to sell their goods (this word comes from the Arabic fondouk). Built in the 13th C., its facade facing the Grand Canal was decorated with frescoes by Giorgione and Titian (a few remains are exposed at Ca' d'Oro). The palace you enter today to buy your francoboli (stamps) dates from the beginning of the 16C.
