Scuola Grande di San Rocco : The Michelin guide review

Dedicated to San Rocco, who protected against pestilence and disease, this influential confraternity or scuola was recognised by the Council of Ten in 1478 and dedicated to fighting the plague. Tintoretto was chosen as their painter, and a fine collection of works by the great master (1564-1587) are on display here, including some of the finest Mannerist works ever painted. Note how the artist conveys the message of Salvation in a populist and emotive style.
