Cannaregio : The Michelin guide review

The name calls to mind pastoral canals and gentle strolls by the water's edge, and the reality is not far off! This sestiere in the north of the city is dissected by broad quays as charming as they are deserted… Created as recently as the 16C, these canals were built for the purposes of industry and are still lined with workshops and humble houses today. Cannaregio is also the sestiere of the Ghetto, the West's first Jewish quarter. To the southeast, not far from San Marco, the urban fabric gets tighter and the heritage reasserts itself, as in the stunning Ca' d'Oro!
