Travel guide Taranto
Taranto
: The Michelin guide review
The town of Taranto was founded by the Greeks in the 7C BC, and was conquered by the Romans four centuries later. Its geographic location at the end of a road enclosed by two fortified islands ensured that it was a well-defended military port. Taranto is also known for its impressive Holy Week ceremonies and processions. One of these, lasting 24 hours, crosses the town at an incredibly slow pace – another lasts an equally impressive 17 hours!
