Dig into the history of the Roman empire with a tour of architectural and archaeological gems. Begin at Piazza Venezia before heading to Capitol Square to view a panorama over the Coliseum and the ruins of the Forum. Pass the Pyramid of Caius Cestius, born of the Egyption craze that swept Rome, and the remains of the Circus Maximus, where spectators watched chariot races. Finish with a visit to the Basilica of St Paul, whose origins go back to the time of Constantine.
