Travel guide Pavia
Pavia
: The Michelin guide review
It was in Pavia in 1525 that the French king Francis I lost everything “except honour” when he was taken prisoner by the Emperor Charles V. This attractive Romanesque city has long been an important cultural centre and its university is one of the oldest in Europe (both Petrarch and Leonardo da Vinci studied here). Pavia is also home to a Carthusian monastery (the Certosa) which is one of the largest Christian monuments in Italy.
