Battistero (Baptistry) : The Michelin guide review

Begun in 1196, the baptistry was created in pink Veronese marble on an octagonal plan, probably by the Parma architect Antelami whose "hand" is recognised in the sculptures and the signature figure on the lintel on the north doorway. The Byzantine inspired interior has a remarkable collection of frescoes depicting the life of Christ and the Golden Legend. All in all this one of the most homogenous medieval monuments in northern Italy.
