Regione dei Laghi : The Michelin guide review

Maggiore, Orta, Como, Iseo and Garda are all legends in their own right. Of glacial origins, these long, narrow expanses of water stretch out from Piedmont to Venetia and from Switzerland to Trentino at the foothills of the Lombardy Alps. The climate is mild and the landscape of blue waters and towering peaks is particularly pleasing. It is impossible to resist the charm of these Alpine and southern landscapes, the shores of which are lined in opulent villas set in superb gardens and tiny fishing harbours.

Pros

Maggiore, d'Orta,di Como, pour le charme et la douceur de leurs paysages, mais aussi d'incomparables perspectives depuis les bateaux qui assurent la navigation. Leur particularité paysagère, c'est qu'on aperçoit toujours la rive en face, d'où cette impression d'intimité,de proximité selon la transparence de l'atmosphère. Di garda possède aussi parfois ce caractère,mais il est le plus grand, avec selon le point de vue un aspect mer, ainsi depuis Riva l'horizon perçu est vraiment maritime. Des films de pirates y ont été tournées, à Peschera on peut voir encore les caravelles ayant servies au tournage...

Cons

Fréquentation touritique parfois envahissante sur certains lieux, Isola dei Pescatori(Verbano), Bellagio(Lario)un genre de St Tropez transalpin...
