Built in 1609, the palace of Cardinal Federico Borromeo has one of the world's richest libraries, and an art gallery founded on the collections of the Cardinal: works by Bernardino Luini (Christ Child with a Lamb), Raphael (cartoon for School of Athens), Bramantino (Virgin and Child enthroned with Saints) and Leonardo (Portrait of a Musician), plus a fascinating Basket of Fruit Still Life by Caravaggio and a selection of Flemish and Dutch paintings.
