On Via San Lorenzo stands Piazza G. Matteotti, dominated by the neo-Classical façade of the Palazzo Ducale. Here also stands the church of the Gesù, built by Tibaldi in 1597, which contains Guido Reni’s Assumption and two canvases by Rubens. Beyond, on Piazza De Ferrari are the prestigious Carlo Felice theatre and the imposing Borsa (Stock Exchange), the nucleus of modern Genova.
