Travel guide Cividale del Friuli
Cividale del Friuli
: The Michelin guide review
The former Forum Julii, overlooking the River Natisone, gave its name to the Friuli region. It is here that the Lombards, who came from Scandinavia, founded the first of their northern Italian duchies in the 6C. The town, home to the patriarchs of Aquileia, then ruled by the Venetian Republic, was badly damaged by the 1976 earthquake, but has since been rebuilt.
