Brescia
: The Michelin guide review
The important industrial town of Brescia lies at the foot of the Lombard Pre-Alps. It has retained the regular street plan of the Roman castrum Brixia, which once stood here. The town boasts numerous Roman, Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque buildings which bear witness to a history that saw the free commune join the Lombard League, then come under Venetian rule. During this period, the city was home to a school of painting whose most important members were Vincenzo Foppa, Moretto and Romanino.
