Travel guide Hillsborough
Hillsborough
: The Michelin guide review
Sited on a hill, this charming town laid out around a central square acquired its Georgian character thanks to Wills Hill (1718-1792), created Marquess of Downshire in 1789. The conductor Sir Hamilton Harty (1879-1941), whose father was organist here, is buried in the churchyard. The 1985 Hillsborough Agreement was an important step in the British Government’s efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Northern Ireland.
