This triangular open space, also called Hoggen Green, occupies the site of an old Viking burial ground ( haugen) and forum ( thengmote). At the centre stands the statue of Henry Grattan by John Foley (1879) and a modern iron sculpture by Edward Delaney commemorating Thomas Davis (1814-1845), poet, founder of The Nation and head of the Young Ireland movement.
