Travel guide Ardfert
Ardfert
: The Michelin guide review
Ardfert was first established as early as the 5C as a missionary base. The imposing ruins of the cathedral and monastery illustrate the importance Ardfert gained in the Norman period. The cathedral was built around 1150 and later destroyed either by fire or in the conflict between supporters and opponents of Cromwell. An exhibition in the south transept (15C) retraces the history of the building and of the two little churches, ornately decorated with interesting sculptures, which can be found nearby.
