The Pnyx forms an amphitheatre where the People's Assemblies were held, from the 6 to the 4C B.C. This was a democratic meeting of citizens discussing proposed laws where famous orators such as Themistocles, Pericles and Demosthenes spoke. Highly frequented initially, it was abandoned despite the participants being paid. In the 4C the archers chased Athenians to oblige them to fulfil their civic duty! A fantastic view of the Acropolis from the terrace!
