Grouped together at one end of this street (which takes its name from the university) are luxury hotels, grand terraced cafés, restaurants, confectioners and smart shops. The Schliemann House, an attractive residence known as the “palace of Troy” (Iliou Mélanthron), was built in 1879 by architect Ernst Ziller (1837-1923) for an eminent German archaeologist in the style of a Venetian Renaissance palace, and houses the Numismatic Museum.
