The national library evokes a Doric temple. It is a 19C building, erected using white Pentelikos marble, which forms with the university (Panepistímio) and the academy (Akadimía) an architectural set in neoclassical style with elegant although somewhat cold lines. This library contains no fewer than 500,000 volumes and 3,000 manuscripts!
