Lysicrates' Monument star : The Michelin guide review

Erected in 334 B.C., it is the sole survivor of the Tripodon Street monuments. It was enclosed in the French Capuchin monastery in 1669, where under Turkish domination Christian travellers stayed (Byron, Chateaubriand). Escaping the war of independence which destroyed the monastery, it was restored from 1845. In the form of a rotunda, it has 6 columns with grand Corinthian capitals. A sculptured frieze above represents the presumed subject of the dramatic competition won by Lysikrates.
