Corfe Castle : The Michelin guide review

After having been a fortress since the time of William the Conqueror, the castle, which overlooked the Purbeck Hills, had a very turbulent history and was defended by Lady Bankes, wife of the president of the appeal court under Charles I during the Civil War. When the castle fell, during the treason of a member of the garrison, it was destroyed by the parliamentarians.
