Winchelsea star : The Michelin guide review

Winchelsea was established here in the 12C by Edward I, to replace its storm-ravaged namesake some 5km away. It never prospered in its role as a port for the Bordeaux wine trade, as it was repeatedly attacked by the French and left high and dry by a receding sea (some of its chequer-pattern plan remained unbuilt).
