The fourth sanctuary built on the site chosen by St Mungo in the 7C, the present cathedral was not completed until the 15C but the interior dates from the 13 and 14C. It is hard to encompass it all from the square; much better to go to the Necropolis. In spite of three centuries of work, the Church gives an agreeable unified impression dominated by the gothic arch.
