Travel guide Culross
Culross
: The Michelin guide review
According to legend, St Mungo, patron saint of Glasgow was born here. A Cistercian house was founded at Culross in the 13C, but trade with the Low Countries, as well as salt and coal mining enabled the village to be awarded royal burgh status by James VI in 1588. The palace built by rich merchant Sir George Bruce is the best example of some fine 16C and 17C domestic architecture.
