Situated at the heart of Norwich the castle was built in 1160 on top of a strategically dominant hill. The blind exterior arcatures copied from Castle Rising, were faithfully reproduced in Bath Stone when Salvin remodelled the building (1833-1839). Later on the castle was used as a prison.
