Travel guide Macclesfield
Macclesfield : The Michelin guide review
For more than two centuries, Macclesfield was synonymous with silk, produced in approximately 100 local mills. The story of silk is entertainingly and expertly told in two museums: the Silk Museum, housed in the town's Georgian Sunday School building, and Paradise Mill, where guides demonstrate early-19C Jacquard handlooms with punched card controls. These are in fact the distant ancestors of today's computers.
