Silks, lanterns and rugs add to the atmosphere of this personally run, North African restaurant. Most come for the excellent tajines, with triple steamed couscous. Much is designed for sharing.

Owned by Claude Bosi, chef-owner of Hibiscus, and run by Cedric, his brother. They may be French but they know about 'proper' pub food, from Cumberland sausages and prawn cocktail to wild boar scotch egg. Three cosy bedrooms also available.

Pretty Victorian pub with a genuine neighbourhood feel; snug bar, intimate dining room and a look that combines the traditional with the modern. Concise, balanced menu delivers commendably priced dishes that display a deft touch.

An air of calm pervades the restaurant, thanks to the charming owner. Udit Sarkhel is the chef and his cooking is as expertly crafted as ever. The generous prices make over-ordering the easy option.
